While most people her age are long retired, one inspiring Sea Isle City resident who goes by Trudy is spending her summer days perched on a street corner by the sand, greeting beachgoers with a smile. Turning 92 this February, she still works four days a week because, as she puts it, “Why sit on the sofa when I can sit here?”

As I write this, it’s the longest day of the year, which is fabulous, especially when you’re down the shore and on the beach. I had a chance to sit back, relax, and do basically nothing over the past 10 days after undergoing a total hip replacement.

There really is nothing like a Jersey tomato, and August is certainly garden tomato time here on the island. After a couple months of tending and waiting, the bounty this year is impressive, so I think a fun happy hour that puts tomatoes front and center is in order.
