A Letter from the Publisher
Dear Readers,
As summer winds down and we embrace September’s golden light, our Endless Summer edition celebrates the people, places, and memories that make Sea Isle so special. Inside this issue, you’ll find stories that capture both our history and our heart.
We begin with a nostalgic look at the end-of-summer traditions in “Looking Back at the Labor Day Exodus” by Dave Coskey (p. 20), reflecting on what it meant to be a year-rounder when summer friends packed up and left until the following Memorial Day. In “A Lifetime, A Legacy: Vicki Feeney” by Jack Byrne (p. 30), we celebrate the life of someone who meant so much to this community. Vicki will be remembered for her kindness, her devotion to her husband Bill, and the love she poured into raising their sons, Sean and Brendan. Beyond her role in Sea Isle’s recreation programs, she was a friend, neighbor, and guiding presence whose legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew her best.
For our readers looking for fall escapes, “Endless Summer Reads” by Jennifer James Davenport (p. 34) offers a selection of novels that pair perfectly with a September beach day or cozy evening. And as the season shifts, Jean Miersch inspires us to gather friends and family in “It’s Chili in September” (p. 38), complete with recipes, hosting tips, and festive fall flavors.
This issue also shares thoughtful insights in “Summer Reflections and Career Directions” by Fred Dunbar (p. 42), encouraging us to embrace opportunity at every stage of life while enjoying our own version of an “endless summer.” We celebrate community pride in “Sea Isle Legends in the OCHS Hall of Fame” by Dr. Joseph A. LaRosa Jr. (p. 44), highlighting outstanding athletes whose contributions to Ocean City High School sports are now permanently honored. And of course, our Smilestones (p. 48) shine brightly with family reunions, weddings, graduations, and community celebrations, including the Shooting Stars Beach Dance Party, which brought joy to so many.
As always, thank you to our advertisers, contributors, and most importantly you, our readers, for being part of the Sea Isle Times family. May your September be filled with sunshine, friendship, and the lingering joy of an endless summer.
Warmly,
Monica Coskey
