LIBRO FAMILY PRESENTS SCHOLARSHIP
The Libro family presented its 2025 Steve A. Libro Memorial Scholarship to Anna Maria Marczyk, of Absecon, on June 2 during the 2025 Ocean City High School Scholarship Gala. She received a $1,000 scholarship and this fall will be attending The College of New Jersey, where she plans to major in business management and participate in track and field.
In addition to the annual basketball tournament held annually by the Sea Isle City Recreation Department, the Libro family created the Steve A. Libro Memorial Scholarship in his memory. Libro served as a dispatcher for the Sea Isle City Police Department, owned Libro & Mammele Construction, and was a City Commissioner from 1989-93.
He was also a member of the SIC Tourism Commission and Chamber of Commerce, and director of the SIC Recreation Department. Additionally, he coached many local children in numerous sports; served as president of the Board of Education; taught CCD at St. Joseph Church, where he was also a Knight of Columbus; and he was a local Boy Scout Leader.

WORDS AND WINE BOOK CLUB CELEBRATES MILESTONES
The Words and Wine Book Club of Sea Isle City has much to celebrate this year. Not only is the club marking its 20th year, but two of its members recently turned 90. To honor this milestone, the club surprised Eleanor Sullivan and Mary Hudak with a special luncheon at the Stone Harbor Golf Club in celebration of their birthdays.

MAYOR’S DONUT GIG RAISES $1,000 FOR CHARITIES
The Fractured Prune gourmet donut shop celebrated the fifth anniversary of its Sea Isle City location (5004 Landis Ave.) on June 19 with the Donut Grow Up Birthday Bash.
The event featured face painting for kids, and a Celebrity Dipper, Mayor Len Desiderio. The proceeds from his one-hour appearance, totaling $1,000, were donated to three local charities: Ocean City’s Shiloh Baptist Church, Sea Isle’s VFW Post 1963, and VFW Post 1963 Auxiliary.
“I appreciate the overwhelming generosity this fundraiser received from the members of our community – and beyond – and I was truly humbled by the number of people who arrived to show their support,” Desiderio said. “Making the donuts was a lot of fun, and I would definitely do it again! My thanks go to everyone who bought donuts that morning and to our friends at the Fractured Prune for hosting this event.”

FROM ALL-STAR SCHWARBOMBS TO MIKE'S CRAB BALLS
Baseball and crab balls ... Perfect together! There was a lot of talk about both on the Dock at Mike's Seafood on July 17. That's when All-Star MVP Kyle Schwarber, along with his wife Paige and their two sons, stopped by Mike's Seafood before returning from a brief Jersey Shore vacation following the MLB All-Star Game in Atlanta. Schwarber, in dramatic fashion, hit three home runs in three swings in the All-Star Game Swing-off, the new alternative to extra innings, to win the game for the National League.
That was on Tuesday. On Thursday, they had a quiet family dinner before heading back to The Bank to face the Angels on Friday. Schwarber then made headlines again, becoming only the second player ever to homer in his first two games following an All-Star MVP performance. The power display even garnered a mention postgame Saturday on the Phillies' television broadcast when Tom McCarthy said he heard Mike's Seafood powered Schwarber's performance. To which Schwarber replied, "That's right, powered by Mike's Seafood. Way to go, Mike. Attaboy."
The Sea Isle Times posted a photo of Mike Monichetti and Schwarber on our Facebook page immediately after the dinner. There were hundreds of comments, all very complimentary about the popular slugger as a person and as an athlete. Over the course of four days, until this issue went to press, the post had been viewed a staggering 655,000 times in the U.S., Canada, Australia, the UK, and France. Maybe the Phillies will have to arrange for crab balls for everyone in the dugout before games.

SKIMMER ANTIQUE AUTO SHOW WINNERS
More than 40 classic cars lined up on the Promenade for the annual Skimmer Antique Auto Show on Father’s Day, June 15. While enjoying the variety of vintage cars, attendees also were treated to live music from the Snake Brothers before the awards ceremony.
Mayor Len Desiderio presented the “Best of Show” trophy to Renee Hopkin, of South Dennis, for her maroon 1933 Pontiac four-door sedan with rear-hinged “suicide doors,” running boards, and plenty of chrome. The “Mayor’s Choice” award was presented to Steve Lynch, of Havertown, Pa., for his dark green hardtop 1966 Ford Mustang.
Following the awards, all the classic cars started their engines and paraded down the Promenade and into the street for the annual Skimmer Antique Auto Parade.
