ZEBRA BORN AT ZOO; ANY NAME IDEAS?

The Cape May County Zoo welcomed a baby Grant’s zebra on July 14, born to parents Gretta and Ziggy. Grant’s zebra is the smallest of the seven subspecies of plains zebra. The last zebra born at the Zoo was Gracie in 2003.

The new baby Zebra is a girl and the Cape May County Zoo plans to host a naming contest for its new addition. Suggestions for a name poured into the comments section of the Zoo’s Facebook page when the news was announced and the zookeepers are narrowing down the suggestions. Once narrowed down, the finalists will be posted to the Zoo’s facebook page, where everyone can vote. The Cape May County Zoo now has four zebras; Gretta, Ziggy, Gracie and the baby.

While visiting the zoo, the zebras can be seen from the Savanna Bridge during zoo hours, 10am-4:30pm. All visitors over the age of 2 must wear a mask and practice social distancing.

ERNIE MARCACCI CELEBRATES 90TH BIRTHDAY

Sea Isle City summer resident Ernie Marcacci Jr. celebrated his 90th birthday on June 18 with his family and friends.

Born and raised on a farm in Vineland in 1930, Marcacci has been coming to Sea Isle City every summer for 50 years. He and Ruth Ann, his wife of 72 years, have four children: Ernie III, Jeff, Linda and Carol Ann. A retired contractor, he owned Marcacci Ceramic Tile and served many years as a Vineland firefighter, helping to co-sponsor the fireman’s run.

He was Vineland’s recreation commissioner for 40 years and has always stayed active in both his community and with physical fitness. Last summer, the City of Vineland dedicated the new track at the Romano Recreation Complex in his honor.

To celebrate Sea Isle City’s centennial in 1982, he helped organize a run from Vineland to Sea Isle City, which he also ran as he thought it would be a way to commemorate the centennial and honor the founder of both communities, Charles K. Landis.

At 90, Marcacci continues to stay active and enjoys riding his bicycle on the Promenade.
