GOOD COOKIN’ COMING TO ST. JOSEPH

The 1st Bank of Sea Isle made a $5,000 contribution in February to the St. Joseph Church kitchen renovation program that is expected to commence soon in the church’s auditorium. Having a fully functional kitchen will allow the church to host multigenerational activities, both faith and socially-based. “The possibilities are endless,” said Rev. Perry Cherubini.

Said Larry Schmidt, the bank’s president and CEO: “1st Bank is happy to be a good community partner. “We hope that our contribution will help St. Joseph Church meet their community needs and allow people to gather for good causes.”

CAROUSEL HORSE RETURNS TO SIC

The Sea Isle City Historical Museum received a very special artifact in December: a vintage carousel horse created by celebrated German-born woodworker Gustav Dentzel.

The horse was rescued following the infamous Ash Wednesday Storm of 1962 that left Sea Isle’s famed carousel in a pile of rubble. Once rescued, the horse resided in multiple private residences in the Philadelphia area before finally being returned to Sea Isle City.

It is one of the many fascinating artifacts that you can see by visiting the museum.

The VFW Post 1963 Golf League celebrated the end of its 20th anniversary season last fall with a celebratory lunch at the post headquarters that was attended by more than 100 golfers. Proceeds raised during the golf season benefit the post and its auxiliary. Throughout the season the league also collected donations for Sea Isle City United Methodist Food Pantry. The golf league was responsible for hundreds of pounds of food items contributed.

The top male players in 2022 were Terry Moore (first place), Mark Lloyd (second), Dan Healy (third), and there was a three-way tie for fourth among Joe Foell, Bill Woodman, and Joe Stoltenberg. Among the ladies, Patti Lloyd finished first, with Cathy O’Brien and Terry Ward tied for second, Anne Mosenson third and Pati Gaul fourth. All players were awarded a commemorative golf ball for each birdie they recorded during the season.

Moore, who is also the commissioner of the golf league’s board, was honored with the 2022 Jack Shimpf Unsung Hero Award for his contributions to the league. Jack Shimpf was personally on hand to present the award. Shimpf is a U.S. Army veteran and Silver Star recipient from the Vietnam War. Karen Keinath was presented with a special trophy for her hole-in-one last season, her first year in the league.
