Letter from the Publisher

Dear Readers:

Welcome back! I realize that spring has only just begun, but I want to be the first to welcome you to the Summer of 2023! Memorial Day weekend will be here before we know it.

This is our first issue of the year and it’s jam-packed with lots of great features. You should probably turn first to our Events at a Glance. We’ve tried to include everything of interest taking place all around town. It’s especially handy when you’re planning your day, evening, or weekend.

And our features … Mary Lamb kicks off our spring issue by celebrating the remarkable media career of Sea Isle’s own Angelo Cataldi. Now that he’s retired, he’ll no doubt be spending even more time here in town. Mary has an insightful look at this media icon in our backyard. Speaking of spring, a first sign that spring was almost here is the annual Mike’s Run/Walk for Autism. In case you missed it, put your running shoes on, Joanna Gorecke will bring you up to speed.

Sadly, we lost a true treasure over the winter with the passing of Jerry Blavat. In our Legacy feature, Dave Coskey looks back at the amazing life and times of The Geator with the Heater – with lots of incredible photos. Meanwhile, you’ll enjoy Marybeth Hagan’s story about the restoration of a historic painting from the St. Joseph Church. After 100 years, how it got to Sea Isle is still a mystery. Maybe you can solve it.

Danny Lopriore is on a mission this summer to teach everyone about the fastest-growing game in the country … and his Pickleball 101 column in each issue will convert you from novice to expert over the course of the summer. Plus, there are all our regular features that you’ve come to expect, including Must Haves, Word Search, Smilestones, and Times Talks.

As the weather continues to warm, you’ll notice more and more of our local businesses begin to open for the season. They all work to help make your experience here on the island as wonderful as it. We all appreciate your support of our local shops and restaurants.

Thanks for making the time to read the Times. We promise to keep you entertained and informed all summer long.

For now, let’s begin to pull the beach chairs out of the garage. Those wonderful beach days will be here before we know it.

Enjoy!
