LILY CAPONE PLACES THIRD IN EQUESTRIAN NATIONALS

Lily Capone, a daughter of Melissa and Kevin Capone of Sea Isle City, placed third in her class at the Interscholastic Equestrian Association National Finals held in April in Harrisburg, Pa. A sophomore at Ocean City High School, she competed against middle schoolers and high schoolers from across the country. She also finished in the top 18 for individual on the flat and in the top 18 for over fences for her team.

The nationals, held at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex, featured more than 750 of the nation’s leading middle school and high school equestrian athletes representing 242 teams, the most in the IEA’s 20-year history.

Lily has been riding since she was 2 years old and is a competing member on the Star Hollow IEA Team. She trains at Pembrook Farm.

CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS SPREAD EASTER CHEER

For the second year, the Catholic Daughters of St. Joseph Church in Sea Isle City brightened Easter for children in need and homebound seniors. By running a toy and candy drive after each Mass on March 26 and 27, they were able to fill more than 100 Easter baskets with items generously donated by parishioners. The contributed items included: chocolate bunnies and cellophane Easter grass, snacks, coloring books, and toys such as jump ropes. The adults received, in addition to sweets, cozy socks and fragrant hand soaps.

In spreading cheer with others, the Catholic Daughters wanted to show appreciation for the importance of Lent and Easter. Bette Keller, a member of the outreach program for Catholic Daughters, reported that this year’s drive doubled last year’s in donations received.

“We did Easter baskets for the homebound in Sea Isle,” Keller said. “We also gave baskets to The Branches Center in Rio Grande for children. Baskets were also distributed to Covenant House in Atlantic City for victims of human trafficking. This will continue to be an annual event.”
