Letter from the Publisher

Dear Readers:

Happy Summer! I don’t know about you, but July has always been my favorite month of the year. The days are long and gorgeous – and is there any better place to be than on the Sea Isle City beach on a sun-drenched July afternoon? Everything is open and the town is just at it best.

I want to remind you to make plans for the City’s July Fourth celebration. I already have my spot staked out for the fireworks. My grandchildren can’t wait. And neither can I. We have lots of details inside.

I know that you’ll love this issue of the Sea Isle Times. So much great reading …

We’ll tell you about one of the town’s early retail pioneers … Giuseppe Libertella. He helped to pave the way for the awesome retail stores that populate Sea Isle City today.

If you read the Times, you know that we love lifeguard competitions. It’s a summer tradition and so much fun to watch. One of our “old guard” tells us the story behind the Tri-Resort Championships, a Sea Isle tradition since the 1940s. There are lots of photos. How many faces will you recognize?

There’s a change of command at our local VFW, we’ll bring you up to speed on the new command.

And there is an article about South Jersey’s secret gem, The Wetlands Institute, and how it inspires young conservationists. Interested in volunteering? We’ll tell you how you can.

Plus, Jean Miersch will help you celebrate Ice Cream Month; we pay tribute to the Class of 2021; Smilestones are a don’t-miss each issue; and our calendar of events is like none other. We’ll point you in the right direction for all of the best activities scheduled for the month of July.

Regardless of how long your stay, we’re all really glad that you are here. Be sure to take some time to explore all that Sea Isle City has to offer: the beaches and bays, shopping, awesome dining and nightlife and of course, the endless recreational activities.

Enjoy your time and remember to apply that sunscreen; after all, your face was masked up for the past 16 months.
