ELIZABETH BUCH AWARDED SCHOLARSHIP

Elizabeth Buch of Sea Isle City recently was named one of eight recipients of an Irv R. String Local 152 Scholarship Award by the UFCW Local 152, a union that represents grocery-store workers. President Brian String and union representative Cary Lawson presented Buch with the award in front of Acme, alongside her dad, Michael, who has worked for Acme for 36 years.

The scholarship fund was established in 2009 to give back to Local 152’s hardworking members and their families to offset the cost of college. Each winner of the scholarship receives $2,000 toward the cost of tuition, with the funds paid directly to the college or university.

Buch is entering her junior year at The College of New Jersey, where she is studying deaf education with early intervention. She is bilingual in American Sign Language and is enrolled in the five-year master’s program. A consecutive dean’s list student, Buch is also involved with the musical theater club, the ASL club and the a capella group at TCNJ.

FAMILY THROWS BIG CELEBRATION AS GEORGE PRICE TURNS 90

Longtime Sea Isle City sun worshiper George “Lefty” Price turned 90 on Aug. 10. His entire family marked his birthday with a weeklong celebration. While complying with pandemic protocols, his kids paraded him around Sea Isle City in a classic 1963 Lincoln Continental convertible to kick off the celebration. The family hopped from family house to family house while onlookers joined in with honks and cheers along the route.

Other events included extended family members parading a banner down the middle of 59th Street for their Uncle George, theme nights every night, miniature golf in the backyard, a special video montage, and beach Olympics. It should be noted that Price did medal in the relay event.

A Korean War veteran, Price worked more than 42 years at Container Corporation of America (CCA). He is a resident of Philadelphia and loves spending his time in Sea Isle City. He was a star pitcher for North Catholic High School and graduated in 1948. He and his late wife, Mickey, were married for 57 years. They had five children (George, David, Cathy, Danny and Greg) and enjoyed nine grandchildren (George, Danny, Victoria, Erin, David, Michael, Will, Carly and Greg) over the years, too.
